Cabinet refacing can be a good, cost-saving option for kitchen remodeling if the existing cabinets are well-constructed and in good shape, and where a radically different look is desired. It is also a good choice where the existing kitchen layout works well as it is. But where the existing cabinets have structural problems, or where hardware is in poor condition or internal storage features are lacking, you may be better off installing all-new cabinets.
The epitome of modern design is clean lines. What better way to achieve a clean, open floor plan than by doing away with kitchen cabinets and installing floating shelves, instead? Floating shelves add straight lines that pair well with any modern or contemporary decor. Most homeowners opt for this style for the upper cabinets and then have closed cabinetry doors for the bottom half of their kitchen. This allows for storage of all those unsightly appliances and utensils.
Arts and Crafts style is a study in earth tones, geometry, and fine craftsmanship. The cabinetry recessed panels framed with flat faces resemble classic Shaker style. But where simple Shaker style leaves off and Arts and Crafts begins is in the added details. Warm cherry wood is indicative of the finely handcrafted cabinets, as are glass-fronted upper cabinets detailed with wood muntins, arched details beneath the cabinets, and hammered-copper pulls.
