Cabinets with simple beaded molding around a flat inset panel are nearly style-neutral ¿ the finish and the hardware can push them toward almost any look you choose. Here bin-style drawer pulls and visible door latches, mixed with charming glass knobs, nudge the kitchen toward a nostalgic, vintage look that¿s underscored by deep cove molding at the ceiling and decorative supports below the upper cabinets. Furniture-style bun feet on the island and antique ironstone displayed behind glass-panel cabinet doors further accentuate the vintage touch.
Cabinet refacing can be a good, cost-saving option for kitchen remodeling if the existing cabinets are well-constructed and in good shape, and where a radically different look is desired. It is also a good choice where the existing kitchen layout works well as it is. But where the existing cabinets have structural problems, or where hardware is in poor condition or internal storage features are lacking, you may be better off installing all-new cabinets.
If you want to add a flourish of color to your kitchen, then consider colored cabinets. You may choose to use just a touch of color via one or two upper cabinets, or go for a big bang with an entire fiery red kitchen — either way, it will make a huge style statement. Just be sure to love the color before committing. You will be seeing it everyday (before you have coffee in the morning), so it must be a color you can live with.
